Arizona Cardinals Continue to Check Out Top Quarterback Prospects
Looks like the Arizona Cardinals are getting ready for life after Carson Palmer. The veteran quarterback still has a few good years left in him, but he's 37 (38 in December) right now and he will have to hang up his cleats eventually. His eventual replacement may be in this year's draft class and the Cardinals will have to do their due diligence on the top prospects.
NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported that Notre Dame's DeShone Kizer was in town visiting the Cardinals on Monday, and he said they were bringing in Clemson Tigers' Deshaun Watson for a pre-draft visit on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, FOX Sports 910's Mike Jurecki also revealed that Cardinals president Michael Bidwill, general Manager Steve Keim and head coach Bruce Arians had dinner with North Carolina's Mitchell Trubisky on Monday night.
Texas Tech's Patrick Mahomes also had a private workout with the team last month.
The Cardinals are really doing their homework with the top four quarterback prospects in this year's draft. They have the 13th overall pick in the draft, but CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora said they may even try to move up in order to select the quarterback that they want.
"The Cardinals are trying to gauge internally what it might take to move up from No. 13 to get a quarterback — I continue to hear a strong buzz about them and Watson — but that price might be prohibitive," La Canfora said in his report.
So, who will they end up drafting? The Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians seems to think one of them is ready to contribute right away in the big leagues.
"So far, I would say one of the guys — I'm not going to mention names — I think one of them is probably ready to start as a rookie. All the rest, there are some really talented arms that need a year of learning how to play the position, especially at this level," Arians said, according to Arizona Sports.
