'Arrow' Season 3 News: Executive Producer Talks About Sara's Death and Where Olicity is Headed
The premiere episode of "Arrow" season 3 started with the death of a major character. After having talks with Oliver and Laurel, Sara was shot with three arrows by an unseen figure.
In an interview with TVLine, executive producer Marc Guggenheim talked about the aftermath of Sara's death and what lies ahead for Oliver and Felicity.
Guggenheim said that saying goodbye to Sara was "incredibly hard" since actress Caity Lotz "completely fit into [the show's offscreen] family." But the executive producer said that it was worth it because "the story implications for this development are so far-reaching for the show and affect all of the characters." He mentioned that this will jumpstart the "Who killed Sara" mystery which will drive the show for most of the season.
"It will set Laurel on a trajectory that she's never had before on the show. It will create all these other complications and dynamics that I can't talk about because it will spoil stuff," added Guggenheim.
As for the fate of Oliver and Felicity (or Olicity, as called by their fans), it looks like their budding romance grinded into a screeching stop as the pair was seen on their first date, but it was cut short by an explosion which made Oliver realize that a normal life was not for him.
Guggenheim assures fans that the show will continue to explore the pairing.
"The end of that hospital scene [wherein Oliver said to Felicity, "Don't ask me to say 'I don't love you'] didn't just take Oliver and Felicity and put them in a box," said Guggenheim. "This is not the last time we'll hear the words 'I love you' in connection with Oliver and Felicity."
Watch "Arrow" on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
