'Arrow' season 4 news, cast, spoilers: New season will sport a lighter tone and tease Green Lantern

"Arrow" season 4 will be a breath of fresh air for its fans. With the last seasons revealing the lowest points in Oliver's/Arrow's life, it definitely seems that there's no way but up on the show's return. Arrow has started out to be much darker compared to its comic book counterpart; however, it is obvious that the series is now trying to build up to ultimately match its source material. With changes to his name to Green Arrow, as well as his costume and even the name of his city to Star City, it is much expected that the lightness of the superhero on illustration will soon be reflected on the live action one.

Marc Guggenheim, executive producer, told Entertainment Weekly that the light tone will come from the fresh and different Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell), who seems to be enjoying his new relationship with Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards), and from temporary freedom from his vigilante roles. He shares "It still feels like Arrow, but at the same time, Oliver's got a new outlook on life. We're driving conflict to the show in ways that we never would have in the first three years. So it still feels like Arrow, but it's a different take on the show." Gugenheim further adds, "We played him as a guy who was returning home from war with PTSD for the first three years. Now he's put those demons to rest, or so he thinks, and there's a lightness to him as a result of all the things he learned last year."

Although this is the case, it will not be all fun for Oliver, as the new big bad, Damien Darhk, will be "pure evil." This means that Damien's new role will go beyond doing evil to achieve a bigger purpose, unlike Ra's al Ghul and previous enemies, and focus on selfish gains and will not stop until he gets them. This will call for a different approach from Arrow, if he wants to beat Dahrk.

Another teaser that may get fans even more excited is Oliver's visit to Coast City, home to another DC superhero, Green Lantern. The producer confirms that this is indeed a nod to the said hero. Guggenheim mentions that during the visit, some sort of ring will be involved, and whether it is a power ring in connection to the Green Lantern or an engagement ring to Felicity, fans would just have to wait and see.

Stay tuned for the fourth season of Arrow and what it will bring as it premieres on Oct. 7 at 8 p.m./7 c on The CW.
