'Arrow' Season 5 Episode 16: Chase Tortures Susan to Trap Oliver

Chase (Josh Segarra) has Oliver (Stephen Amell) by the neck in the upcoming episode of "Arrow."

In the episode titled "Checkmate," the promo shows that the District Attorney, who is actually the vigilante Prometheus, is bent on destroying the Green Arrow. He has kidnapped Susan (Carly Pope), Oliver's ex-girlfriend, and intends to use her to his advantage. The clip reveals that Chase will torture the journalist and sends the video footage to Oliver. The Green Arrow will also learn the truth about Prometheus' true identity. He realizes that he has been associating with the villain for a long time and will wonder why he did not recognize the truth sooner.

Chase's true intention still remains unclear. Viewers get the idea that he is out for revenge. Segarra said in a recent interview, though, that his character has no plans to kill the Green Arrow. What Chase wants above all is to see the hero suffer. He will use any leverage he can get to break Oliver from within. Susan is a key player in his game.

Segarra told IGN that the kidnapping would have a major effect on Susan. She will have to live with the fact that it was Oliver who put her in such a dangerous situation. Whatever will happen next, the ex-lovers' relationship will no longer be the same.

"Susan is a very, very important piece and a very good move in the big chess game that's going on. And then to get to see that relationship, how it develops between the two, because ... Susan may feel betrayed by Oliver, so it's interesting to see how Chase will try to let's say navigate those waters, how he can get to his next move," Segarra teased, according to IGN.

"Arrow" season 5 episode 16 will air Wednesday, March 15 at 8 p.m. EDT on the CW.
