'Arrow' Season 5 Spoilers: Wild Dog Backstory, Oliver Chooses to Be Mayor Queen Instead of Green Arrow
The upcoming episode of "Arrow" season 5, "Spectre of the Gun," will tell the story of how the vigilante Wild Dog (Rick Gonzalez) came to be.
In the installment, Star City is left shaken and in grief after the City Hall was attacked by an unknown gunman. The incident brings back painful memories for Rene.
From the looks of it, a similar event may have pushed the rebellious vigilante to don his hockey mask and become Wild Dog. How it all started will be told in "Arrow" season 5, episode 13 through flashbacks.
Not much is known about Rene except that he was dishonorably discharged as a Navy SEAL after beating up a prisoner to get information. Other than that, there are no known details on his family or what he was doing before Wild Dog was born.
This should change in "Arrow" season 5, episode 13 as the latest crisis appears to tie directly to the very reason he became a vigilante in Star City.
The vicious attack will also spark debate on gun control. This puts Oliver (Stephen Amell) in a predicament. He attempts to look at the situation both as the Green Arrow and as the mayor, which results in conflicting perceptions.
In the promo for "Arrow" season 5, episode 13, Oliver, as the leader of the city, promises the citizens of Star City that he will find the man responsible for the bloodshed before he comes back for more.
Doing so as the Green Arrow will definitely make things complicated. With gun control a hot topic in the city, Team Arrow might want to lay low first.
Quentin (Paul Blackthorne) advises Oliver in the "Arrow" season 5, episode 13 preview that putting the gunman behind bars is not a job for Green Arrow, but Mayor Queen.
It will be interesting to see how it all ends and how the varying stances on gun control will affect how Team Arrow operates in Star City.
It is also important to note that Willa Holland will be back as Thea in this installment after being thoroughly missed in the previous episode. Showrunner Marc Guggenheim revealed to TVLine that she is only set to appear in 14 out of 23 episodes this season.
"Arrow" season 5, episode 13, "Spectre of the Gun," airs Wednesday, Feb. 15, at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.
