'Assassin's Creed' movie cast news: Michael Fassbender to act and produce

More news about the upcoming movie adaptation of "Assassin's Creed" revealed some cast and plot details.

Assassin's Creed movie will feature Michael Fassbender in the Assassin's Creed universe. He will portray the characters of Callum in the modern day, as well as Aguilar from the past. He will be joined by Marion Cotillard, Michael K. Williams, and Ariane Labed. It was stated that the full cast will be revealed soon.

It was reported that the film will present a brand-new story with new characters. However, it will still include several characters that users of the game will find familiar. The film will not be based on any of the previous Assassin's Creed games. The release of the movie will represent as the day that Desmond saved the world. According to the press release, he saved the world and died. It was also revealed that Callum will be seen very differently than Desmond and those from the series. Yvew Guillemot from Ubisoft announced, "We have the pleasure to announce today that the green light has been given by New Regency, and the production has already started. This is a very important milestone for the project and for our team on Assassin's Creed."

Rumors of the movie adaption for Assassin's Creed have been circulating since 2011 when Ubisoft launched a division named "Ubisoft Motion Pictures." Now that it is confirmed, it was revealed that Fassbender will act and produce the film under the direction of Justin Kurzel. The script was written by Adam Cooper and Bill Collage. Fassbender stated, "You say it's a long time, but what I've found — it's all new to me — but starting to develop scripts and work on them, they take time." He continued saying, "It just takes time to get a good story together and we really want to do it right. It's exciting. It's going to start this year; we'll be filming in September."

The Assassin's Creed movie is expected to release on Dec. 21, 2016.
