'Assassin's Creed Origins' Discovery Tour Mode News: Combat-Free Educational Feature Coming in 2018

Ubisoft announced a new feature for "Assassin's Creed Origins" ahead of its Oct. 27 release. By 2018, the single-player action-adventure video game will have a combat-free educational mode that will teach players about the history of Egypt.

This upcoming feature is dubbed the "Discovery Tour by Assassin's Creed: Ancient Egypt." It is designed as an open world map that players can explore at their own time, pace, and leisure.

Ubisoft actually created a virtual museum for the "Assassin's Creed Origins" Discovery Tour mode. Players can examine and read the guides curated by real historians and Egyptologists that Ubisoft consulted.

The mode will teach players about the lifestyle of ancient Egyptians. They can also learn about mummification, the origins of the pyramids or read up on personalities like Cleopatra. They can also visit historical places like Alexandria, Memphis, or the Giza Plateau virtually.

"Discovery Tour is another way to enjoy the beauty of the world we've recreated," Jean Guesdon, Ubisoft's creative director said on the company's official blog. "It's a more educative mode, so it's clearly focused on education and on bringing to people actual facts, more academic knowledge."

Guesdon also said teachers, schools, and other institutions requested Ubisoft to create this world given the game's popularity among young students. Discovery Tour intentionally has no action scenes nor fights so that players can fully benefit from its educational aspects.

Players who purchase "Assassin's Creed Origins" will get the free Discovery Tour mode update sometime early 2018. The game will hit store shelves on Friday, Oct. 27, in North America. It will be playable on platforms like PlayStation 4 (PS4), Xbox One and the PC.

In 2014, Ubisoft started developing "Assassins Creed: Origins" as a follow-up to the franchise's fourth installment, "Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag." The company officially announced the game last June, after several screenshots leaked online.
