'Assassin's Creed: Origins' Gameplay News: Devs to Add 'Discovery Tour' Mode Filled With Historical Facts About Egypt
Ahead of "Assassin's Creed: Origins'" release, Ubisoft confirmed they were going to include an entire game mode called Discovery Tour that will be filled with lessons on Egypt's rich history.
"Assassin's Creed: Origins" is the franchise's upcoming main title release this year and will be set mainly in the land of the Great Pyramids.
Even in previously released "Assassin's Creed" titles, Ubisoft usually made an effort to share some historical facts on the places and people that inspired the games.
However, with the Discovery Tour, Ubisoft plans to take the in-game history lessons "several steps further." In a statement, the game developer described it as a game mode "that lets players explore the game's massive re-creation of Egypt and delve into its history firsthand."
Unlike in previous releases, the Discovery Tour on "Assassin's Creed: Origins" will be a standalone game mode that "features dozens of guided tours curated by historians and Egyptologists."
Ubisoft raises expectations on the Discovery Tour by teasing that it will touch on several important events and places in the history of Egypt "including the Great Pyramids, the life of Cleopatra, mummification, and more."
This means that when gamers want to take a break from playing the action-adventure stealth game and completing quests, they can do so by visiting the Discovery Tour where they will learn more about the location that greatly inspired the game.
Since players will not be running away from enemies in the Discovery Tour, it will be as if they are wandering around real-life locations such as Memphis, Alexandria, the Sand Sea, and the Giza Plateau without the need to hurry or worry about getting killed.
Ubisoft also confirmed that the Discovery Tour will be added through a free update in early 2018.
The announcement of the Discovery Tour is very much aligned with Ubisoft's intent to present the game and its locations in the most realistic way possible.
A few months ago, developers confirmed that they were working on designing in-game locations as close to the real ones as possible.
The game's creative director, Ashraf Ismail, earlier told the Official PlayStation Magazine, (via Games Radar): "We have quite a few tombs in the game, and they range from being classical puzzles to navigation puzzles and navigation challenges."
He added, "A lot of them are actually built off of the actual true tombs that we've researched."
"Assassin's Creed: Origins" is out on Friday, Oct. 27, on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
