'Assassin's Creed: Origins' News: Revamped Combat System a Product of a 'High-Level Philosophical Change,' Hints Creative Director
New combat system will no longer be based on timed animations
"Assassin's Creed: Origins" is bringing big changes to the series, including ones that will make themselves known once players get into battles.
These were not just minor alterations too, as the entire combat system itself has been changed.
DualShockers' Logan Moore recently had an opportunity to chat with creative director Jean Guesdon about several aspects of the upcoming game, including the revamped combat system.
According to Guesdon, the battle system was something that he and the other developers wanted to work on right from the start.
He added that there was a desire on their part to "create something new and different" that went beyond "just changing moves or adding difficulty."
Guesdon noted that a need grew for a "high-level philosophical change," and from that came the combat system that fans will soon be able to see in "Assassin's Creed: Origins."
For fans who may still be unaware of how significant the changes were, an earlier post on the game's official website highlighted the main elements of the new system.
First off, gone are the days when battles in "Assassin's Creed" games relied on animations.
In "Origins," where characters are positioned and the hitboxes their weapons feature will be the main factors that determine whether an attack is going to land or miss the mark.
It works both ways too, as enemies will also be able to take advantage of their rangier weapons or players who position themselves poorly.
The idea behind these changes is to provide players with even more freedom and to make battles feel new.
Players will also have an Adrenaline Gauge to monitor, and if it is filled enough, they will be able to hit their opponents with a powerful move.
Fans will finally be able to try out this new battle system for themselves as soon as "Assassin's Creed: Origins" is released on Oct. 27.
