With the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 on top of its game, the Asus ZenFone 2 has appeared on the scene to take it on with its much lower price.
Considered one of the best Android handsets sporting a large screen, an accompanying stylus and a sharp camera, the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 is a prince among smartphones, but one budget device, the Asus ZenFone 2, has proven to be up to the challenge.
Design-wise, the higher-end Galaxy Note 5 with its metal framework and Gorilla Glass cover makes a more attractive choice. Accessorized with an S Pen stylus, the phablet has a curved back panel for easier handling. It also sports a fingerprint scanner and comes in white pearl, sapphire black, titanium silver and gold platinum variants.

On the other hand, the lower-priced ZenFone 2 is built primarily of plastic, but makes up for it with a body covered in metallic-coated paint in white, red, grey, black and gold colors.
In terms of display, the Galaxy Note 5 trumps over the budget phone with a bigger 5.7-inch AMOLED display featuring 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution. The 5.5-inch ZenFone 2 offers a 1080 x 1920 resolution IPS screen in comparison.
While the Galaxy Note 5 carries the Exynos 7240 chipset and an octa core CPU, its Cortex-A53 only clocks at 1.5Ghz compared to the ZenFone 2's 2.3 GHz Intel Atom Z3580 chipset and quad core processor.
There is no MicroSD card slot on the Galaxy Note 5, which is one of its disadvantages, together with a non-removable battery. The ZenFone 2, however, with its 4GB of RAM, is expandable to up to 64GB of internal storage.
The ZenFone 2 trumps the Galaxy Note 5 further in the matter of price. While the Galaxy Note 5, which is limited to only a few countries, is locked to a two-year contract at $249.99, the ZenFone 2 is a cheaper alternative with an unlocked price point of only $300.
