Atlanta Hawks NBA Trade Rumors: Mike Budenholzer Says Paul Millsap Is Staying Put
A handful of contenders would love to get their hands on Atlanta Hawks forward Paul Millsap because they could just plug him into the lineup right away thanks to his versatility. Unfortunately, the Hawks are not letting him go and he's no longer on the trade market.
Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution asked Hawks coach/president Mike Budenholzer about Millsap's status earlier this week and he said the four-time All-Star was "not going anywhere." Of course, nothing is official until the trade deadline passes, but it looks like the Hawks are standing firm on their decision to keep Millsap for the rest of the season.
ESPN's Marc Stein also talked about the Hawks stance on Millsap and he said teams have been skeptical about their claim that the forward is off the market. However, the Hawks have steadfastly maintained that he won't be moved before the deadline.
Millsap can now breathe a sigh of relief after hearing Budenholzer say he's staying.
"Bud has been a man of his word. He has always shot it straight with me, always been honest with me. I take his word for what it is. It's refreshing to know I'm not going anywhere and I'll be on this team until the end of the year," Millsap said, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
"Now, I've got to make it work. Stick to basketball and try to get wins," he added.
Millsap's name first mentioned in trade rumors last month, but days after word got out the Hawks pulled him out of the trade market. Millsap is staying put right now, but he will become a free agent after the season.
The team already lost Al Horford in free agency last summer, and there is a chance they may lose Millsap as well and get nothing in return for their troubles. Will he re-sign with the Hawks in the offseason?
