'Atlanta' Season 1, Episode 6 Spoilers and Updates: 'Value' to See Van's Ugly Storyline? Episode 5 'Nobody Beats the Biebs' Recap
FX's "Atlanta" continues to impress with its funny yet compelling and brutally honest storyline. The fifth episode "'Nobody Beats the Biebs" carried on the magical realism of Earn (Donald Glover) and Alfred's (Brian Tyree Henry) struggles to make it in the Atlanta rap scene. As the cousins' artistic journey builds up, the sixth episode "Value" appeared to highlight Van's (Zazie Beetz) complicated story.
Episode 5 Recap: 'Nobody Beats the Biebs'
The fifth episode of "Atlanta" placed the lead characters in funny and strange situations, while staying true to its title. Alfred/Paper Boi took part in a charity basketball game, where he matched up against an arrogant black pop star named Justin Bieber (Austin Crute).
At one scene, the Biebs started openly urinating in the middle of the crowd while laughing. The big-headed pop star played well, but he continued to annoy as the game progressed. He sported Michael Jordan and LeBron James' jersey number "23" while smack-talking his opponents using the N-word. He later apologized for his actions at a post-game press conference.
The basketball match also featured brief cameos of "Family Matters" star Jaleel White, singer Lloyd and rapper Lil Zane, who all played alongside with the black Justin Beiber. Paper Boi persisted to land an interview after the game, but he ended up getting a harsh advice from a reporter.
The fifth episode also featured Earn getting mistaken for another black. An older woman (Jane Adams) thought Earn is her old acquaintance named Alonso. The woman brought the struggling manager to a VIP lounge where famous and high-profile people swap business cards all day.
Earn played along and tried to make use of the opportunity to sell Paper Boi's career. However, things took a bitter turn when the woman started accusing Alonso of stealing her clients and ruining her career. She furiously told Earn she will make sure he will die homeless.
The episode also showed Paper Boi's sidekick Darius (Keith Stanfield) creating tension at a shooting range. Darius took aim at a target graphic showing a white "Dad", which did not sit too well with two white spectators.
Episode 6 Spoilers: 'Value'
The teaser of the FX series' sixth episode hints that it will focus on Van's storyline. Earn's baby mama appeared to be on the verge of losing her job due to drug-related issues.
The short clip showed Van figuring out how to pass a drug test. "I can't lose my job because I am all that we have," the fierce character stated.
Episode 6 of "Atlanta" will air on FX at 10 p.m. on Oct. 4.
