'Attack on Titan 2' Playable at Paris Games Week 2017

Koei Tecmo has revealed that "Attack on Titan 2" will be playable at the Paris Games Week this coming November.

For those who are unaware, "Attack on Titan 2" is the sequel to the video game "Attack on Titan: Wings of Freedom," which was first released in 2016. The games are based on the popular Japanese manga of the same name, which finds the human race fighting against gigantic, man-eating humanoid creatures called Titans.

According to Koei Tecmo, the playable demo will feature "completely revamped gameplay" and "elements of the newly improved omni-directional mobility gear, allowing players to counter enhanced Titan movements."

The improved omni-directional mobility gear gives players more freedom of movement and allows for better precision when attacking enemies. Titans will also put up more of a fight this time around. Their behavior has been tweaked to mimic the one observed in the anime and manga. They are also said to be much more frightening in the sequel.

"The threatening menace of the titans wasn't as strong, so for the second game we're currently working on that," producer Hisashi Koinuma told Polygon at the Tokyo Game Show in September. "In terms of making the titans scarier, it's really the AI themselves, giving them a lot more variation ... to add that element of fear and to make it more like the original comic. You don't know when the titans will attack, you're constantly in this state of fear."

"Attack on Titan 2" follows the season 2 storyline of the Japanese anime series, which means players will be able to experience all the action firsthand. But the action is not the only thing to look forward to. There will also be a relationship aspect to the game. Players will have the option to choose from more than 30 different playable characters, up from 10 in the previous game.

Apart from an appearance at the Paris Games Week from Nov. 1 to 5, the playable demo will also be available at the Lucca Comics & Games Convention in Italy on the same dates.

"Attack on Titan 2" will be released in early 2018 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
