'Attack On Titan' Season 2 News, Release Date: Premiere Delayed; Season 2 To Debut Later This Year?
While it was announced back in 2015 and was expected to drop mid-April this year, the second season of the popular anime series "Attack on Titan" is reportedly being delayed.
The Japanese anime adaptation, which is based off the internationally successful manga series, first aired in 2013 and is produced by Wit Studio and Production I.G. The first season aired on the Japanese network MBS from April to September 2013.
Fans of both the TV adaptation and the manga series rejoiced last year when a new season was finally announced. However, the anticipation has hit a wall, with reports now coming out that the new season is being delayed while the manga's creators create new content.
Season 2 of "Attack on Titan" was previously postponed so that the manga could get ahead of the animated series. As MoviePilot reports, the team behind the anime now wants the manga to be at least four arcs ahead of the TV series. The animated series was reportedly set to begin creating original content, but the production team behind it has decided to not deviate from the manga storyline.
According to the website, both Hajime Isayama, the creator of the franchise, and Tetsuro Araki, the director of the anime, have said that the manga must always be four story arcs ahead of the animated series. While this means that the anime's writers will not have to craft original content for the series, it does mean that the anime's schedule is dependent on that of the manga. Currently, Araki cannot finish the second season of "Attack on Titan," as the manga is only two story arcs ahead of the anime.
In addition, Christian Daily reports that another reason the second season of "Attack on Titan" is being delayed is that Araki and his team are also working on a separate anime series, "Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress."
Nevertheless, MoviePilot has also reported that production on season 2 of "Attack on Titan" is underway and that the new season could be released later this year.
