LA Clippers News and Rumors 2014: Australian Joe Ingles Signs With Los Angeles Clippers
The Los Angeles Clippers held an NBA media day Monday and unveiled Australian recruit Joe Ingles. Ingles was largely unknown among the Clippers' roster but made his debut during the media day. Ingles was happy to have made his debut in the NBA.
"I'm very lucky to be in this situation and will take it with both hands," he said.
The Clippers is regarded to be one of the strongest teams in the West Conference despite various contorversies that plagued the team in the past months. One such controversy was former owner Donald Sterling's legal troubles over the ownership of the club as well as former Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer's purchase of the club for $2 billion.
Ingles is the latest Australian acquisition in the NBA, signing with the Clippers after his strong performance for the Boomers during the recent FIBA World Cup. He also spent the last four years in Europe playing mostly for the Euroleague champions Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv.
The Clippers will be led by All-Star point guard Chris Paul and forward Blake Griffin for the 2014-15 NBA season. Ingles may not always be in the starters with such talent in the roster but he says that he will not abandon his unselfish play style.
"I'm here to spread the floor a bit. They like my playmaking, getting others involved. I've always been a pass-first guy and probably that has hurt my career in other jobs, but I'm not going to change the way I play," Ingles had said.
The Clippers started their training day Tuesday this week in Las Vegas.
