'Avatar 2' Release Date Confirmed; James Cameron Wants to Prove Something
In what could be one of the most exciting confirmations ever delivered to fans of "Avatar," the sequel has finally been confirmed for Christmas of 2017.
During his recent interview with the Montreal Gazette, director James Cameron said, "Christmas of '17 is the target. At least that's what we've announced," he said. This only means that the long wait is almost over as fans will just have to wait for roughly two years or so before they get a look at Neytiri once again.
For the past 6 years, fans have been anticipating for any announcements that 20th Century Fox will make about the sequel, but details and updates have been very scarce, giving some fans the idea that the second installment just may never happen at all.
To address the issue, Cameron explained that the team worked on design for two years. It was a strenuous journey but the team has eventually completed "all the creatures and the landscapes, and the new worlds within the world of Pandora that you see." As for the story, it's still under development but is almost at the finish line.
A lot of things have been accomplished over the past six years including technical developments and stages, as well as infrastructure. The director also hinted that production will most likely begin early this year. Since almost everything is completed, it is only reasonable that production should start working on the actual scenes that fans will see in the second installment.
In a phone interview with Entertainment Weekly, Cameron said working on the sequel was definitely a huge challenge that he continues to overcome. "Obviously, expectations are going to be very high on these films, especially on Avatar 2, to make sure it wasn't just some big fluke the first time," he said.
This only means that the time taken to develop everything for the sequel will be worth it once the movie hits the big screens. In the interview, Cameron also said the entire team is looking to "deliver" a movie that will hopefully hit the mark that critics and fans have placed for the movie.
"Avatar 2" is expected to release sometime in December of 2017.
