'Avatar 2' Update: James Cameron Says Sequels Will Be 'Meta-Narrative'
It's been seven years since "Avatar" was released in cinemas, and fans have been wondering when the next sequels will finally be released. James Cameron, the writer and director of the movie franchise, already confirmed the release dates of the three sequels and said each movie will be a "meta-narrative."
According to Breathe Cast, Cameron said that even if the upcoming sequels of "Avatar," which will be released in 2017, 2018, and 2019, can stand alone, each film tells a much bigger story, thus becoming "meta-narrative." The award-winning director confirmed that there's a story that will link all movies, and since there's limited plot details, fans wonder what the "bigger story" is.
However, Cameron didn't leave fans hanging since he also provided few clues to the movie's followers. According to Lawyer Herald, "Avatar 2" will introduce new worlds within Pandora, and even new alien species will be seen in the upcoming sequel. "It's been about a two-year task. [We've finished] all the creatures and the landscapes, and the new worlds within the world of Pandora that you see," the director said. The story for all the sequels is still in the process of being written, according to the website, but is almost finished now.
Meanwhile, besides introducing new characters, species, and stages, the movie will also bring back the original characters from the first movie. These characters include Jack Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana). And even if Colonel Miles Quatrich (Stephen Lang) and Dr. Augustine (Sigourney Weaver) already died in the 2009 movie, they are rumored to be coming back in "Avatar 2." The website said that Cameron claimed "science fiction characters do not really die." Fans are looking forward to see how the two characters will be brought back to life in the movie.
According to IMDb, "Avatar 2" will premiere on Dec. 25, 2017.
