'Avatar 2' News: Director James Cameron Share Update On Sequel With Fans

James Cameron, director of the highly successful movie "Avatar," has revealed a couple of details regarding the upcoming sequels.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Cameron has finally spoken about "Avatar's" much-anticipated installments six years after the original movie hit theaters. He talked about the movies' scripts and design process.

"I'm in the process of doing another pass through all three scripts right now," Cameron told EW during a recent phone interview. "Just refining. That's in parallel with the design process. The design process is very mature at this point. We've been designing for about a year and a half. All the characters, settings and creatures are all pretty much [set]."

Cameron is set to shoot all three sequels at the same time, and so the movies' pre-production process is obviously a lengthy one.

The director also clarified that filming the new entries to the series doesn't make it any easier this time around. Cameron reveals he has had to challenge himself. He also has to contend with fans' expectations.

"Obviously, expectations are going to be very high on these films, especially on Avatar 2, to make sure it wasn't just some big fluke the first time," he told EW. "So we've got to deliver."

The original "Avatar" set the record for being the highest-grossing film in the world, earning $2.7 billion globally. It beat another Cameron-directed film, "Titanic." The movie also received nine Oscar nominations in 2010, winning the awards for Visual Effects, Cinematography, and Art Direction.

Cameron had to relinquish directing of another movie, "Battle Angel: Alita," to Robert Rodriguez ("Sin City") in order to focus on making more "Avatar" films.

The "Avatar" series is set to receive three more installments. The first of which, "Avatar 2," is scheduled to release two years from now in December 2017.
