'Avengers: Infinity War' News, Cast, Spoilers: The $1 Billion Budget for 'Infinity War'
When Marvel announced its cinematic universe, many didn't think about how far the studio was willing to go. Starting off with only a lineup of solo Avenger films, no one realized how big Marvel wanted to achieve until it announced its Phase 3 of the MCU.
Despite all the exciting solo character movies that fans can look forward to, the biggest title of all would perhaps be "Infinity War," which will be in two parts, showing in 2018 and 2019, respectively. It's definitely ambitious thinking about the story line that Marvel wants to put on screen, but will this ambition cost the studio $1 billion?
This shocking rumor apparently circulated during the New York Comic-Con. According to Bleeding Cool, the outstanding budget was the main talk of the "very well sourced comic book film insiders." The $1 billion budget is said to cover both films. The breakdown would include the $400 million allotment alone to directors, producers, and actors, with Robert Downey Jr. to be paid up to half of all the actors' talent fees combined. This means that equipment, location, set, crew, costumes, special effects costs aren't even included yet.
Although Marvel movies have proven to be very profitable, going past billion dollar marks before, the idea of a film spending as much as $1 billion had many gaping. This means that the movie would have to earn twice or even more just to turn a profit. Although it hasn't been confirmed yet, it's quite possible that it could be very well the case for such a high-profile film. The last time a $1 billion budget was mentioned was for James Cameron's "Avatar," but it was supposed to cover all the other three sequels.
For now, fans are looking forward to "Infinity Wars Part 1" as it hits theaters on May 4, 2018, while Part 2 on May 3, 2019.
