'Avengers: Infinity War' News, Release Date: New Fan Art Depicts Downcast Teenage Groot
After filmmaker James Gunn previously affirmed that the upcoming "Avengers: Infinity War" would feature a teenage Groot from "Guardians of the Galaxy," many wondered what the character would actually look like at that point. Recently, a new piece of fan art for the upcoming installment of the "Avengers" franchise was dropped and offered a glimpse of Groot as a teenager.
Voiced by Vin Diesel, Groot was first introduced in "Guardians of the Galaxy." Although he died towards the end of the first film, he was then reborn and was shown being a toddler in the sequel, watched over by Chris Pratt's Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana's Gamora, Dave Bautista's Drax and Bradley Cooper's Rocket Raccoon. Apparently, he would not be a cute toddler for long, as the post-credits scene for "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" showed him gaming as a teen.
In the new character poster for "Avengers" Infinity War" that was recently posted on Diesel's official Instagram page, fans finally got a closer peek at Groot as a teenager. Captioned "Heroes Will Fall," the piece of art depicted Groot looking a bit down and self-reflective.
Previously, it was reported that not all of the heroes would be able to make it out alive after the ultimate battle in "Avengers: Infinity War." Because of this, the new downcast image of Groot has led to speculations that he or one of his loved ones might be among the unfortunate who get killed during the battle. The good news, however, is that the image was just fan art and not an official release by Marvel, so it is highly possible that fans could just be reading too much into the situation.
"Avengers: Infinity War" will find the Marvel superheroes come face-to-face with the biggest threat to humanity yet, Thanos, in an epic showdown that will see the death of some of Marvel's fan-favorite characters. The movie is still in production and will hit U.S. theaters on May 4, 2018.
