'Avengers: Infinity War' News: Filming in New York in May; Recruiting Extras

The largest ensemble movie yet for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, "Avengers: Infinity War," is going full scale with production as it goes to different locations to shoot the film. As such, people who are in the Big Apple may catch a glimpse of them, or even be part of the movie — at least for a few seconds.

According to Movie Casting Call, shooting for both "Avengers: Infinity War" and an untitled Avengers sequel will be done in New York City this May, and that the producers are looking to hire background performers. In order to avoid raising too much suspicion and drawing an extremely large crowd, both films will have a working title of "Mary Lou."

The casting requires any ethnicity, and will be hiring individuals who appear in their 18–50s, but should have what they call "New York looks." The posts will be open to new talents only and will be handpicked by the directors themselves, Anthony and Joe Russo. Also, it is said that filming begins tentatively on May 19.

From the description of the casting, it appears like they may be hiring a number of extras who will be witnessing an attack from Thanos' minions, and that it will be an onslaught of epic proportions. New York is now known as one of the places that will be featured among others.

Before this, it can be recalled that the team flew to Edinburgh where they had to close a central street for the night shoots. BBC has learned that some netizens were able to catch a glimpse of Scarlet Witch's (Elizabeth Olsen) stunt double, and that most of the witnesses were asked to sign a non-disclosure contract.

What slipped through social media, however, was a scene in which Vision (Paul Bettany) levitates, appearing to be kidnapped by aliens who may be stealing the infinity stone from him. This just confirms Bettany's participation, if anything.

"Avengers: Infinity War" arrives in cinemas on May 4, 2018.
