'Awkward' Season Renewal News, Update: Executive Producers Mike Chessler and Chris Alberghini Share Hopes of A Sixth Season
Apparently, it's not only the fans who are wishing that the Palos Hills gang in MTV's hit teen drama series "Awkward" will remain on the airwaves after its Season 5B finale.
Earlier reports indicated that the fifth season would be its final instalment. However, showrunners Mike Chessler and Chris Alberghini admit, during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, that they made some tweaks on its conclusion with an idea in mind that the network will renew the show for a sixth season.
"In terms of it being the end, it might not be. We don't know about that," Chessler told THR (via Enstarz.com). "We were just feeling like 5A is the end of the high school chapter of the show, and 5B is a whole new reboot of the show. We finished shooting 5B in July, and we're really excited about how that came out. On the one hand, it's a nice resolution, but on the other hand, it opens a lot of doors, so this may not be the end of the show,"

Alberghini echoed what his co-showrunner said but offered more blatant hints for what they hoped for the future of the show.
"I think we dropped a big enough hint that this may not be the final season, so we just want to make sure that gets heard," he was quoted as saying (via THR).
It remains to be found out if MTV will order another round of the scripted program. For the meantime, Alberghini teased what to expect when the show returns on air this Monday, August 31.
As revealed by the EP, Season 5 will pick up "just a day or two after they get back from spring break."
"…all of the issues that we left 4B dealing with, we'll be dealing with the repercussions of those story points at the beginning of 5A," he went on to say (via THR).
