Baltimore Ravens Nearing a Deal With Lardarius Webb
Lardarius Webb has already delivered a touching farewell message to his friends and Ravens fans last month, but he might not be leaving after all.
According to CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora, the Baltimore Ravens are close to a deal to bring back Webb, and ESPN's Jamison Hensley has reported that "barring any final complications with the deal," the defensive back should re-sign with the Ravens.
After the Ravens signed Tony Jefferson, Webb was released in order to free up salary cap space. However, Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome has noted back then that they were open to bringing him back and they did just that.
A lot of observers have noted that bringing Webb back is the right move for the Ravens and he's a proven insurance policy in case somebody gets injured. Due to his versatility, Webb can back up Tony Jefferson and Eric Weddle at safety, and he can also play cornerback if Jimmy Smith is sidelined.
"Webb's versatility, being able to play both safety and cornerback, will provide much needed depth to the Ravens secondary. As of right now, the unit is very thin," Matthew Cohen of the Baltimore Beatdown said in his report.
"Webb is coming off a really solid season in his first year playing safety. He is a talented player with a wealth of experience in the Ravens' system. Resigning Webb would be a really solid move for Ozzie Newsome and his staff," he continued.
Since the Ravens are looking to add more depth to their secondary, they may as well turn to a player they already know.
Webb was selected by the Ravens in the third round of the 2009 draft and he has been with them ever since. He is one of the Ravens' longest-tenured players and a lot of people are going to be happy to see him wear a purple uniform next season.
