Baltimore Ravens Trade Rumors: Teams Have Inquired About Timmy Jernigan
Former National Football League (NFL) executive Mike Lombardi was at it again. After reporting that the Seattle Seahawks were willing to trade Richard Sherman for the right price, Lombardi had another juicy tidbit to share on his "The Ringer NFL Show" podcast. This time it involves Baltimore Ravens defensive end Timmy Jernigan.
Lombardi said he has heard that the Ravens were considering moving Jernigan this offseason because they could not afford to re-sign him when he becomes a free agent. The team was reportedly looking for a third- or fourth-round pick in return for the defensive end. The Ravens could have refuted the rumor, but instead, head coach John Harbaugh has admitted that they have spoken to teams interested in acquiring the defensive end.
"Trade talks always go on. People are interested in Timmy because I'm sure they feel like, with our defensive line situation — we have a lot of good, young players — that he might be available. So people are going to ask about him," Harbaugh said at the American Football Conference (AFC) coaches breakfast last week, via the Baltimore Sun.
"Everybody is up for trade. I'm sure that if the Ravens got enough, they'd trade me in a second. Might not take much right now if people are looking," he continued.
Harbaugh also said he believes Timmy Jernigan's going to have "the best year of his career" next season. However, he didn't really specify if he's going to be playing for the Ravens.
Is trading Jernigan a good idea? The Ravens still have a solid defensive line despite losing Lawrence Guy to the New England Patriots, but they will have to rely on Michael Pierce to log heavy minutes if Jernigan is moved since Willie Henry and Carl Davis may not be ready to contribute much at the position.
Jernigan could end up staying in Baltimore for another season, but teams would get the opportunity to pry him away from the Ravens.
