Barack and Malia Obama News: Father and Daughter Attend 'The Price'; Greeted With Loud Cheers
Barack and Malia Obama were recently spotted attending the Broadway play "The Price." They were warmly greeted with loud cheers as people got another glimpse of the former U.S. president.
"The Price" is a play written by Arthur Miller that had its first run at the Morosco Theatre in Broadway in 1968. Since then, it has been revived four times - in 1979, 1992, 1999 and in 2017.
The story revolves around a police officer, Victor Franz, who had to give up college in order to watch over his aging father. Victor's character was inspired by Miller's real-life friend, Irving Abrams, who was known for having the highest IQ in all of the New York Police Department during his time of service.
According to reports, the president and Malia went backstage after the show and spent some time chatting with the cast, including Mark Ruffalo, Danny DeVito, Tony Shalhoub and Jessica Hecht.
It is important to note that the Obamas have always been fans of Broadway shows. As ABC pointed out, during the president's term, they attended several theater plays such as "Hamilton," "A Raisin in the Sun," "Joe Turner's Come and Gone," "Memphis," "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark," "Sister Act," "The Trip to Bountiful" and more.
Anywhere they went to that night, the president was greeted with loud cheers from the crowd like when he left an office building in Fifth Avenue around noon and when he exited "The Price's" venue, the American Airlines Theatre, after the show.
As can be seen from the videos, the president would always stop and wave at the people cheering his name.
On the other hand, Malia has also been quite connected with the entertainment business. In 2015, she worked as an intern on the set of HBO's "Girls." She is currently taking a year off from school before she starts attending classes at Harvard.
However, the former first daughter is not wasting any of her time as she has reportedly started to intern for Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein's New York office this February.
