Barack Obama Birthday: President Turns 51, Birthday Wish is to Win Florida
Barack Obama celebrates his 51st birthday on Saturday August 4, 2012. The president was already sung "Happy Birthday" earlier this week on Thursday in an early birthday wish during the commencement of his campaign rally in Florida.
Florida will be one of the key battleground states come November's elections and Obama himself has joked that probably his top birthday wish would be to win the state's 29 electoral votes.
Obama said, "If I had known you guys were going to sing we would have had a cake. And then I would have blown out the candles, I would have made a wish, that probably would have to do with electoral votes. Winning Florida wouldn't be a bad birthday present."
However, on Saturday for his actual birthday President Obama is expected to keep things much more low key. It is expected that he will spend the weekend at Camp David, which is the private presidential retreat in Maryland's Catoctin Mountains.
But come August 12 the president will be holding a much more public event; a birthday-themed fundraiser at his family home on Chicago's South Side.
It has been reported that Obama's campaign attempted to increase its "small dollar" donations by promising donors the chance of winning a spot at the prestigious birthday bash. Donors were urged to donate for their chance to win prior to the end of July fundraising deadline, according to the Associated Press.
Despite turning 51 Obama has kept his sense of humor: "I'm going to be 51 on Saturday - 51. Michelle says I look 50," Obama said. "So that's not bad."
