Barbara Walters: More Children Are The Only Thing I Would Have Wanted

Barbara Walters is preparing for retirement and shared reflections on her 65-year career in journalism in a new interview this week.

The 84-year-old broadcast journalist is a staple on ABC, having hosted shows such as "ABC World News" as well as "The View."

Just ahead of her annual and final "Most Fascinating People" special, Walters appeared on "Piers Morgan Live" to reveal one major regret of her 84 years.

"I regret not having more children," the award-winning and iconic journalist admitted on Tuesday, according to Entertainment Tonight. "I would've loved to have had a bigger family."

Walters has one adopted daughter, Jacqueline, who is 44 years old today. The journalist went on to cite her siblings while speaking to Piers Morgan.

"I don't have brothers and sisters," she told Morgan. "I wish I had a bigger family."

Growing up, Walters and her elder sister Jacqueline lost their brother, Burton, in 1944. Jacqueline, who was mentally disabled, died in 1985 of ovarian cancer, leaving behind only Walters.

As for her career, Walters said she harbors no outstanding wants or needs.

"Beyond anything I expected," she told Morgan. "And I don't know what it's going to be like when I stop working."

The famous journalist confirmed her retirement back in May.

"I am very happy with my decision," Walters said in a statement at the time. "And look forward to a wonderful and special year ahead," she added.

Furthermore, Walters noted that her retirement will be full of relaxation.

"I do not want to appear on another program or climb another mountain," the veteran ABC News anchor said. "I want instead to sit on a sunny field and admire the very gifted women- and, okay, some men, too- who will be taking my place."

ABC is expected to give the journalist a formalized tribute during her send-off, and president of the network Ben Sherwood said that "there is only one Barbara Walters" in a statement.

"We look forward to making her final year on television as remarkable, path-breaking and news-making as Barbara herself," he said, promising "exclusive interviews, great adventures and indelible memories."
