'Bates Motel' Season 4 News: Freddie Highmore Discusses Shocking Death in 'Forever'
The 'Psycho'-inspired series skilled off a major character in its recent episode.
The latest episode of "Bates Motel" Season 4 surprised many of the fans after it killed a major character.
The episode titled "Forever" showed Norman (Freddie Highmore) taking his and his mother's fate into his own hands. Fans of the series have been waiting to see how Norman was going to kill his mother, since that was the storyline presented in the classic film "Psycho."
With that, "Bates Motel" presented an unexpected turn of events when Norman was seen planning for him and his mother to die together. Norman was going to perform a suicide/murder through a gas leak in a house that will put him and Norma (Vera Farmiga) into a deep sleep.
However, Sheriff Romero ruined his plan when he took them both out of the house. While he was able to save Norman, Norma did not seem to have the same fate. Norma's death shocked many fans, as it was an interesting way to kill of one of its major characters.
According to IGN, Highmore was able to share some details about how Norman came to the decision of killing both him and his mother. He said, "I think the time when he finds the suitcase and has that moment of self awareness and puts on the robe and realizes that there are darker truths that lie behind many of his actions, I think that's a key moment. And then when he sees just how broken they both are in the kitchen."
He explained that Norman simply wanted a happy ending for him and his mother. He said, "Once he's up in the bedroom I think his mind has been made. And that's what makes the scene so powerful. There's a happiness to it. A lightness to it. Their last scene together isn't going to be a fight or a struggle. It's going to be them dreaming and bonding and then dreaming on once they've both well and truly fallen asleep."
The finale of "Bates Motel" Season 4 is expected to air on May 16.
