'Batman v Superman' Movie News: Gal Gadot Talks about Landing the Wonder Woman Role

Next week, moviegoers are finally going to witness a "battle royale" between two of the world's most-known superheroes, Batman and Superman, as "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" hits the theaters on March 25. While it is true that fans of the two superhero characters are looking forward to the clash of the two esteemed super powers on the big screen, there is no denying that fans of Wonder Woman are excitedly anticipating her first-ever big screen appearance, too.

In her interview on the "Ellen DeGeneres" show recently, Gal Gadot, the actress who plays Wonder Woman in the upcoming film revealed the process she went through before she finally suited up as the Amazonian warrior princess-turned superhero.

Despite already being in the audition venue, Gadot said that she was totally clueless as to what role she was auditioning for. She initially came to do a screen test for Zack Znyder and was later asked to join Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck, playing Superman and Batman, respectively, for a screen chemistry test.

Despite feeling positive that the audition would work to her favor, Gadot said that she still had no idea as to what role she would be playing. Little did she know that the mystery would be unveiled that same night as Znyder called her up, informing her that she bagged the role.

"Same night, ... Zack calls me, saying, 'Well, I'm not sure if you have it in Israel, but did you ever hear of Wonder Woman?' Then I went dead for five seconds, came back to life, and tried to pull off my coolest voice, saying 'Wonder Woman? Yeah, yeah, I've heard of her," Gadot recalled.

However, despite the good news that she would portray the live-action Wonder Woman in the movie, things were not a walk in the park for Gadot. For one thing, there were hardcore Wonder Woman fans who questioned why she was chosen for the role despite her model-thin body, citing that Wonder Woman, at least, in the comic books, is muscular. There were also those who predicted that her Wonder Woman would pale in comparison to the quintessential Wonder Woman of Lynda Carter, which ruled television in the 1970s.

With Gadot's dedication to the role, she embarked on months of training at the gym to bulk up and learning a few martial arts before finally wearing the Wonder Woman suit. The result apparently silenced her detractors as many were left in awe when the teaser for "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" was released, showing an impressively bulked up Gadot in Wonder Woman costume.

Gadot will appear again in "Wonder Woman," the first stand-alone film featuring the popular female superhero, scheduled to arrive in theaters in June 2017.
