'Batman v Superman' News: Ben Affleck May Direct Solo Batman Film; Is Inspired By 'Dawn Of Justice' Director

"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," the highly anticipated DC superhero clash film, marks Ben Affleck's first big-screen appearance as the Caped Crusader, but it won't be his last. The actor/director is also set to have a small role in the forthcoming "Suicide Squad" and will don the cape and mask for two more "Justice League" films.

In addition, reports from USA Today and other news outlets indicate that Affleck may do more than just star in another "Batman" film. The actor may also direct and co-write a future solo "Batman" installment for DC's live-action cinematic "Justice League" franchise.

In a recent chat with USA Today, Affleck wouldn't confirm whether or not he will direct himself in a future "Batman" film. According to the Academy Award-winning director who received an Oscar Best Picture for his film "Argo" (2012) and in which he also starred, the only film he knows for sure he's directing is the one he's working on right now, "Live By Night," a film adaptation of the crime novel of the same name by Dennis Lehane.

But when Affleck was asked if he agreed to play the role of Batman so that he could one day get a chance to "tell his own story" about the superhero, the actor replied, "I'll just say going through the process, I would never have imagined that I could or would direct a movie like this."

"And in working with ['Batman v Superman' director Zack Snyder] and seeing what he did and watching him every day, I got really inspired by that and by seeing the scope on which he was telling the story, by seeing what he was able to do with this kind of mythic story on a grand scale," he added.

While he didn't give an outright "Yes" to the question, the actor didn't reply with a "No" either, which gives fans of Affleck's Batman a glimmer of hope that their favorite actor could someday take the reins of his own "Batman" film.

"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" hits theaters on March 25. "Suicide Squad" lands in cinemas on Aug. 5.
