'Batman v Superman' News: Snyder Says Movie Isn't Adaptation of 'Dark Knight Returns'

With all the attention that "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" is receiving, it won't be a surprise if the movie comes out as a hit when it releases early next year, and just when all fans and watchers believed that the movie is an adaptation of Frank Miller and Bob Kane's "Dark Knight" comics, director Zack Snyder drops the bomb.

During Kane's reception of his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Snyder stepped out to congratulate the celebrated co-creator of the darkest superhero in the DC universe. Snyder said he owes a lot of the design on Ben Affleck's Batman suit to the original Dark Knight that Kane and Miller delivered to comic book fans.

According to Comic Book Resources, Snyder also discussed the comic book version of the Dark Knight and how it influenced his ideas for the movie. In what could be one of the most shocking revelations since the movie was announced, Snyder said the film actually isn't an adaptation of "Dark Knight Returns."

He said, "You could still make Dark Knight Returns into a movie, if you want...the visual elements, there are some that I homage, but I don't think the movie is an adaptation."

The news comes as a surprise to the many fans who initially thought the movie will largely be based on how Miller saw Batman in the comic books and his return to the world of heroes. Snyder's statements also have become a topic of debate among some fans and watchers who know much of the comic book.

Cinema Blend notes that just like Miller's account, the movie will also look at the battle between Batman and the Man of Steel and a lot of the "visuals look similar to the comic's brooding edge."

It is unclear if Snyder is talking about a whole new depiction of Batman in the movie or if his film will portray other story lines that will convince fans that it isn't an adaptation of "The Dark Knight Returns."

"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" hits theaters on March 25, 2016.
