'Batman v Superman' News, Spoilers: Cast, Director Respond To Critics; Ben Affleck Says Film Not 'Overtly Political'

Since opening on Friday, March 25, Zack Snyder's much-anticipated superhero film "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" has received mixed reviews.

Though some critics praised the movie, others thought it was merely okay. Others, meanwhile, seemed to outright hate the film. The Wall Street Journal's review of "Dawn of Justice" called it "stupendously dispiriting" while The New York Times' film critic said that its narrative was "overstuffed" and "preposterous."

As can be expected, the film's director and cast members are aware of these reviews and some of the criticism have even warranted responses from the "Batman v Superman" bunch.

In a recent interview with Yahoo! Movies U.K., Snyder said, 'I'm a comic book guy and I made the movie as much as I can on that aesthetic."

"I know that Zack [Snyder] doesn't make the movies - or none of us - are making the movies for the critics," Amy Adams, who reprised her "Man of Steel" role as Lois Lane in the film, said.

According to Adams' "Man of Steel" co-star Henry Cavill, who reprised his role as Clark Kent/Superman in this film, the critics' reviews are their personal opinions and their opinions "always come from a place."

"What is really going to matter, I believe, is what the audience says," the actor added. As he explained, it will be the viewers buying the tickets and whose voices will be the loudest.

Meanwhile, Ben Affleck, who made his cinematic debut as the Dark Knight in "Dawn of Justice," has defended the film against those who pointed out its political undertones. According to the actor, he doesn't see the film as being "overtly political."

"I don't think it's strident, I don't think it's preachy, but I think it does raise the question of, 'What happens to us when we become afraid of one another?' which is a very current theme," he told USA Today.

"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" is now in theaters.
