'Batman v Superman' News, Spoilers: Wonder Woman Does 'The Cool Stuff' In Film, Director Reveals
Though her name isn't in the film's title, Diana Prince/Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) is definitely an essential character in the upcoming superhero team-up film "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" and in the greater DC Universe.
As DC fans know, Wonder Woman forms the comic book Trinity along with Bruce Wayne/Batman (Ben Affleck) and Clark Kent/Superman (Henry Cavill). And though "Batman v Superman" will, as the title implies, focus on the conflict between the two iconic caped superheroes, Wonder Woman will be the one doing "the cool stuff," the film's director has revealed.
In a recent interview with Today Online, "Dawn of Justice" director Zack Snyder, who is also set to helm "Justice League Part One" (2017) and "Justice League Part Two" (2018), revealed that he has always been a big fan of The Trinity and hinted at how Wonder Woman's outsider status in "Batman v Superman" is actually good for her character.
"The one thing that Wonder Woman does get the opportunity to do, because she's not as deeply intertwined in the story, is the cool stuff," Snyder told the website. "Like when you just get to show up and be cool, that's pretty much what she gets to do."
The director also gushed about his love of The Trinity, saying: "I am a big fan of The Trinity, which is Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman. It's a concept that I've always loved."
Meanwhile, Gadot, who is making her big screen debut as the superheroine in "Batman v Superman" before appearing in her own film in 2017, recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the importance of bringing a strong female character to the big screen. Her take on Wonder Woman, the first female superhero to reach a wide audience, is the first cinematic version of the 75-year-old DC character.
"Most of the movies, the men are in charge, the men are the most powerful ones. You've had Superman and Batman and everyone, but Wonder Woman was never there," she said.
"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" hits theaters March 25. "Wonder Woman" is scheduled for release on June 23, 2017.
