Battlefield 4 Gameplay: Female Character in Multiplayer a Future Option?

Video game developer, DICE, has said they could be adding female video game characters to their Battlefield franchise in the future.

"Yes, but we don't know when we can do that," said the game's executive producer Patrick Bach to OXM. "We have been talking about it quite a lot. We've been looking at how much it's worth, compared to how much we'd have to sacrifice."

He continued, "Because it's quite complicated, It's not just [creating] the actual character models, it's all the voice-over work. We have hundreds of thousands of lines that would need to be duplicated, because even now we're cheating quite a lot - we have random male voices, and then you have to multiply that by two. If we do it, we'll do it right, not just to tick a box or something."

Having female characters in the game would cause the developers to look at the project and ask themselves if they are there to add diversity, or just merely to fill a demographic.

"I think maybe - without trying to over-simplify it, because I do think that there are certain components of inherent sexism in terms of game protagonists these days - I think that the way it gets dealt with the best, the way that it gets dealt with the easiest, is just by honestly putting a character in the game that you feel passionate about putting in the game," said Nathan Vella of the game Below earlier this year to OXM.

Call of Duty: Ghosts will feature female soldiers in multiplayer mode for the first time.

Meanwhile DICE is now taking all the data and feedback they received from the people beta testing the game and are making changes.

Battlefield 4 is hoping to have all the glitches, errors, and tweaks in for the game's launch on Oct. 29.

Amazon is offering a Battlefield 4 bundle, which includes the game, and a PS4 for $399, when the console becomes available.

The game launches on the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. In November, it will release for the PS4 and Xbox One.
