'Belief' Miniseries by Oprah Winfrey Spreading False Ideas About Christianity?

Oprah Winfrey launched a miniseries titled "Belief" to explore all forms of faith worldwide, but the show has gained criticism for its alleged goal to spread false ideas about Christianity.

In a post on Christian website Charisma News, Editor Jennifer LeClaire said Oprah Winfrey's discussion of her Christian faith was just for show. She said all the talk about Christianity was only meant to promote the miniseries because the host never mentioned Jesus during the promotion of Belief, according to Christian Today (CT).

Oprah Winfrey's miniseries "Belief" premiered on Oct. 18 and the last episode aired on Oct. 24. The show featured different personalities and their journey to find meaning in life, the report adds.

Belief featured a former skateboarder who embraced Islam, South Pacific island natives who take dangerous jumps believing the daring move will result in a bountiful harvest, and Christians shaken by rape, murder, and war. Most of the topics focus on the central theme of self-empowerment and discussed how people could deal with the large hurdles in life with the help of others, the Chicago Tribune reports.

LeClaire said Oprah's discussion on religion is not based on her "newfound appreciation for Christianity." The news editor said it was just a promotional move for "Belief," a miniseries that they described as a "groundbreaking" event meant to explore people's efforts to connect to another greater being, the report relays.

In addition, LeClaire said Oprah is not really celebrating Christianity because she said there are several ways to go to the Father other than Jesus; rather, she is embracing a spiritual practice that involves many faiths.

Although LeClaire openly admired Oprah Winfrey for her accomplishments and effort to help others, she is worried that the prominent Belief host's influence would sway the faith of many Christians. LeClaire said she will be praying for the time when Oprah would truly surrender her heart to Jesus Christ and use her fame to uplift Him.
