Ben Affleck Quitting Batman Amid Sexual Harassment Scandal? DCEU Fans Call Out Actor
Ben Affleck has been embroiled in his own a sexual harassment scandal amid the condemnation involving top producer and the actor's friend, Harvey Weinstein. Women are coming out to call out Affleck on his behavior that some fans want him out as Batman in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU).
Twitter users are reportedly campaigning for either Affleck to give up his role as Batman/Bruce Wayne or Warner Bros to fire him from DCEU. Fans cited that he's not fit to represent the superhero on the big screen because of this latest scandal.
In a Twitter statement, Affleck said that he's "saddened and angry" over Weinstein's attacks on women. He said this behavior should be condemned because it's not acceptable.
Actress Rose McGowan, who revealed that Weinstein raped her, said Affleck lied about not knowing Weinstein's behavior. He told her in one press conference years ago that he was supposed to help suppress the news about the attacks.
Affleck also admitted to groping actress Hilarie Burton in 2003. The actor posted an apology for the incident with Burton on Wednesday.
A makeup artist then came out to ask for an apology from Affleck as well because he groped her buttocks during a 2014 Golden Globes party. Twitter users have since been calling Affleck "Buttman."
Affleck's own sexual harassment scandals comes just one month before DCEU's "Justice League" premieres. Fans warned that this movie will tank at the box office due to Affleck's presence.
The actor, however, has been rumored to be out of DCEU soon but for a different reason. Early this year, stories came out about Affleck giving up on the role after problems on his solo movie "The Batman" cropped up.
Affleck stepped down as director for "The Batman" and speculations were that he'll hang up his cape as well because he lost enthusiasm for the role of the superhero. But at the San Diego Comic-Con last summer, the actor said playing Batman is the coolest privilege. He said he remains committed to the role.
