Zoolander 2 Release Date, News: Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson Walk Valentino Runway at Paris Fashion Week
Fans of the comedy hit "Zoolander" have been clamoring for a sequel since the film premiered in 2001, and recently, the movie's main stars Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson announced the sequel in a manner typical of their characters, male models Derek Zoolander and Hansel McDonald.
Amidst deafening cheers and applause, the duo walked the runway in Valentino's Paris Fashion Week show at the Jardin des Tuileries on Tuesday, March 10 as their famous characters. Stiller appeared in a dark blue suit and tie ensemble with a navy trenchcoat, while Wilson strutted in a shiny light blue pajama outfit with white sneakers, topped off with a pale blue trench coat.
The stunt surprised celebrity guests at the front row that included Nicky Hilton, Kate Mara, and Cara Delevingne.
Apparently, "Derek" and "Hansel" even got the seal of approval from Vogue's Anna Wintour, who posed for pictures with the pair as they got ready for their triumphant Paris Fashion Week debut. It was reported that Wintour was one of the few who was aware of the secret and helped the actors get ready for the catwalk. In pictures posted on the Vogue website, Wintour can be seen laughing in the background as the duo practiced their famous "Blue Steel" facial expressions.
It was previously reported that Penelope Cruz has signed on to co-star in "Zoolander 2," which was written by Justin Theroux. In November, THR reported that the film, which will be directed by Stiller, would begin filming in Rome in February.
The fashion world appears to be excited for the "Zoolander" sequel as E! Online reports that many supermodels such as Cara Delevingne, Naomi Campbell, Jourdan Dunn, and Alessandra Ambrosio are allegedly vying for cameos in the movie. The website also reported that Karlie Kloss will be making her acting debut in the film, after Gigi Hadid turned the role down.
"I think the idea in the beginning of the movie is that it's 10 years later, and Derek and Hansel are literally forgotten. Nobody remembers who they are, so they have to reinvent themselves," Stiller told MTV News in 2010.
Stiller's wife Christine Taylor will return as Matilda, and Will Ferrell will be back as nefarious designer Mugatu.
"Zoolander 2" will be released on Feb. 12, 2016.
