Beyonce Horse Fly Named 'Bootylicious'
A new diva has been announced to the world in Australia. Following in the golden light of Beyonce, the new diva has also been said to be quite “bootylicious.”
Bryan Lessard, a 24-year-old researcher at Australia's Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization, has recently named a horsefly after singer and new mother, Beyonce.
"It was the unique dense golden hairs on the fly's abdomen that led me to name this fly in honor of the performer,” Lessard said in a statement to the Huffington Post. The golden hairs give the fly a noticeably golden behind.

Scaptia (Plinthina) beyonceae, is a rare fly native to Australia that was first discovered in 1981, the same date in which Beyonce was born. The fly is one of almost 4,400 species of horse flies, and was kept as part of a collection since its discovery in 1981.
Lessard returned in 2010 to the location that the fly was discovered but was unable to find any more living specimens of the rare fly, although some reported recently being bitten by what locals called “the gold bum fly.”
Horse flies are "vital pollinators of native plants, not just in Australia, but all over the world," Lessard said. He also explained that he hoped the celebrity name would draw attention to the importance of his research, although he is a fan of Beyonce and wouldn’t mind a call from her as well.
