Beyond Two Souls Release Date: Game Censored Over 5-10 Seconds in Europe

Beyond: Two Souls was released today in the U.S. for the PS3 and will arrive in Europe on October 11, but with a slight difference; in the U.S. the game will be rated M, in Europe it will not.

The European version of the game was censored and brought down to a PEGI 16 rating. In order to do this the game makers had to cut a mere 5-10 seconds of the game wrote Ross Alexander of the EU PlayStation Blog.

"The 5-10 seconds I mention above would have upped our rating to a PEGI 18, so it made perfect sense to make these two VERY minimal changes to get our planned 16 rating. I can assure you that this does not affect the game's story at all, and that if you didn't know these scenes had been amended, you wouldn't even notice," he said. "Hope the above helps to allay your concern."

VG247.com reported that 43 secret trophies and three big trophies were revealed, but as of now the list keeps most of them a secret because they reveal plot points.

The main three are Beyond: Two Souls Master - Platinum (Collected all trophies), Two Souls - Bronze (Launched a scene in Duo mode), and All Endings - Gold (Saw all endings).

It was recently revealed in an interview that the inspiration for the main character of the game came from actress Ellen Page's likeness, said the director.

David Cage, who also director the critically acclaimed Heavy Rain, said he was inspired to create the game at a friends funeral according Kotaku.

"I started writing the first scene of Beyond: Two Souls and I asked myself, 'Who is my main character?' I thought she should have this strength inside her. She's courageous and she's brave. But at the same time she is just a little girl," he said.

As he began his research he found a photo of Ellen Page at 16 years old where she had a shaved head and looked incredibly sad. He knew that was his character.

"Exactly what I was looking for," he said to Kotaku.

"I began to realize that might be a problem," Cage explained after finding himself with pictures of Page everywhere. "Because I realized I was going to have to ask Ellen to be in the game."
