Bieber Trial Date Set for March 3 in Florida
Justin Bieber received a trial date of March 3 following his arrest on DUI, resisting arrest and driving with an expired license charges last month.
The "Boyfriend" singer initially received a Feb. 14 arraignment date, but his attorneys have already filed a plea of not guilty and therefore canceled it, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Now, Bieber is due back in Florida at a Miami-Dade County courthouse where his legal charges will receive trial just two days after his 20th birthday on March 1.
On Jan. 23, Bieber was arrested in the wee hours of the morning after being stopped by police in Miami Beach when he was observed drag racing a rented yellow Lamborghini with musician Khalil Sharieff. The 19-year-old singer was believed to have been driving while under the influence and smoking marijuana, and he admitted to police that he had been using drugs and prescription medication when he was taken in.
The police report indicated that an officer smelled an "odor of alcohol emanating from the driver's breath and bloodshot eyes" and that Bieber had "slow deliberate movements and a look of stupor on this face," reported CNN.
As it turns out, toxicology reports proved that Bieber had both smoked marijuana and taken prescription medication. The singer tested positive for THC, the active ingredient in marijuana, and Alprazolam, the key ingredient in Xanax, an anti-anxiety drug, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Nevertheless, police said Bieber's blood alcohol content tested below the 0.2 threshold for underage drivers. The singer was released on a $2,500 bail the same day of his arrest when he was photographed blowing kisses to his fans.
Meanwhile, the pop star is facing assault charges in Toronto after he allegedly "struck the limousine driver on the back of the head several times." The singer turned himself in to Canadian authorities last week.
