'Big Hero 6 Series' Release Date News: Disney XD To Release One-Hour TV Movie Prior To Animated Series Premiere
The new "Big Hero 6 The Series" will kick off with a one-hour TV movie premiere next month, Disney XD revealed.
According to a report from Deadline, both Disney XD and Disney Channel will broadcast the made-for-TV film titled "Baymax Returns" on Monday, Nov. 20. It will start a series of shorts and several previews before the animated series air sometime in early 2018.
The report also mentioned that after the TV movie, Disney will immediately debut two special full-length preview episodes of "Big Hero 6 The Series" exclusively through the DisneyNOW app as well as the Disney XD VOD. The cable network also revealed that several series shorts will be released every Friday for six succeeding weeks on Disney XD starting Thursday, Nov. 24.
Another report revealed that "Baymax Returns" will center on the events that happen in the fictional city called San Fransokyo where 14-year-old tech genius Hiro started a new school year as the latest prodigy enrolled at the San Fransokyo Institute of Technology where he aims to rebuild his robot friend Baymax.
However, his overconfidence and knack for constantly doing things using shortcut methods will lead him and his newly formed team called the Big Hero 6 composed of Honey, Wasabi, Fred, Go Go, and Lemon to get into trouble.
The made-for-TV film will feature the return of some of the actors who lent their voices to the 2016 blockbuster animated film with the same title, including Ryan Potter as Hiro, Maya Rudolf as Aunt Cass, Scott Adsit as Baymax, Genesis Rodriguez as Honey Lemon, Jamie Chung as Go Go, David Shaughnessy as Heathcliff, Alan Tudyk as Alistair Krei, as well as the legendary Marvel Comics icon Stan Lee as the father of comic book fanatic Fred, who was portrayed in the film by T.J. Miller.
The new cast members for the upcoming TV movie include Khary Payton who will replace Damon Wayans Jr. for the role of Wasabi while Brooks Wheelan will take over the role of Fred. Other recurring guest voice actors include Haley Tju as Karmi, Jenifer Lewis as Professor Granville, Andrew Scott as Obake as well as Andy Richter as Globby.
