'Big Little Lies' Season 2 News, Air Date: EP David E. Kelley 'Optimistic' About Future of HBO Series

Fans of "Big Little Lies" can breathe easy knowing that a second season of the HBO series is quickly becoming a reality.

Adapted from Liane Moriarty's novel of the same name, "Big Little Lies" was only intended as a limited series. Its success and the importance of its subject matter, however, has driven fans and cast members alike to cry for another season.

Executive producer David E. Kelley previously revealed that Moriarty has been busy coming up with possible new storylines for the characters. While an official renewal has yet to be made, it looks like things are headed that way.

"We're kicking around ideas and trying to lasso the talent [and] get the band back together," Kelley told TVLine recently. "It's just a lot of logistical things. But I'm optimistic because everyone wants to do it. We feel we still have storytelling to do. No decision has been made yet, but we're hopeful. Where we left it, I felt like it did open the opportunity for a lot more storytelling."

It does not look like Kelley will have a hard time convincing cast members to return, though. Stars and executive producers Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman have both expressed their desire to reprise their roles several times.

Witherspoon and Kidman may not be the only A-listers in season 2. Apart from original cast members Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern, and Zoe Kravitz, the new season of "Big Little Lies" could see some new famous faces. While speaking to E! Online in August, Witherspoon revealed that she has already gotten calls from other actors who would like to be a part of the show.

"I have gotten two really interesting calls, but we'll see happens," the Academy Award winner teased, though she did not give away any names.

For now, fans can only hope for the best.
