Bill Clinton, James Patterson Developing 'The President is Missing' for Showtime

Bill Clinton, the former U.S. President, will soon add another accomplishment to his name. Showtime will adapt his book, "The President is Missing," into a television series.

Clinton collaborated with famous author James Patterson in writing "The President is Missing," which has yet to hit store shelves in June 2018. The duo reportedly met with different networks and platforms to option their story for television shortly before coming up with the book's first few chapters and Showtime won the TV rights.

"I'm really enjoying writing this book and working with Jim," Clinton said. "And I can't wait to see Showtime bring the characters to life."

"The President is Missing" will be about a sitting president who suddenly disappears. Clinton has been providing Patterson an insider's account of what could likely happen in this situation.

This book is the former president's first fiction, who also published a memoir, "My Life," in 2004. The idea for the suspense political drama came about last year when lawyer Robert B. Barnett suggested that his clients, Clinton and Patterson, should work together. It did not take much to convince Clinton as he is a fan of Patterson's work.

Patterson, a Guinness World Records-recognized author for having the most bestsellers published, said this project is one of the highlights of his career.

"I'm a storyteller, and President Clinton's insight has allowed us to tell a really interesting one," Patterson said in the press statement. "It's a rare combination — readers will be drawn to the suspense, of course, but they'll also be given an inside look into what it's like to be president."

Patterson's books have long been a staple for TV and film adaptations. CBS adapted "Zoo" in 2012 and ABC turned "Women's Murder Club" into a series 2008. "Kiss the Girls" (1997), "Along Came a Spider" (2001) and "Alex Cross" (2012) became big screen offerings.

Showtime did not detail when production will begin for "The President is Missing." Further announcements should come once the book is out.
