'Black Clover' Episode 2 Spoilers: Asta Finds New Hope in Rare Grimoire; Can He Tame the Demon Residing Within?

Asta and Yuno's quest to become the Wizard King begins on the Japanese fantasy anime series, "Black Clover." But now that the previously non-magical Asta has received his very rare five-leaf grimoire, will he be able to wield its power without losing himself?

As things go, a grimoire typically has three leaves representing faith, hope, and love. The first ever Wizard King is said to have received a legendary one that has an additional four leaf that represents good luck.

It is regarded as the highest form of honor for a 15-year-old to receive this type of grimoire at the annual awarding ceremony, and the said magical book has just chosen Yuno, one of the two orphans left at the church in Hage 15 years ago, as its owner.

But there is a third type of grimoire that possesses a fifth cloverleaf to represent the demon that resides within it. And one such book has just appeared in front of the other orphan, Asta, who has been bullied all his life for not having any magical abilities.

It's an unexpected turn of events that is sure to be further explained in the next episode titled "The Boys' Promise." The preview for the said episode also teases some flashback scenes showing what happened on that day Yuno and Asta came back home to the orphanage all bruised up.

It seems that someone has tried to take Yuno's necklace, and Asta bravely stepped in to defend his friend and take the necklace back.

Since Asta could not use any form of magic, he compensated for this by training his physical strength each day. This alone already makes him quite a formidable fighter in the field. But now that he has his own grimoire, and a rare five-leaf clover at that, how will this affect his already exceptional physical strength?

Will Asta be able to tame the demon said to be residing within the pages of the magical book, or will he end up losing himself to both the demon and the immense magic it seems to possess?

"Black Clover" airs on Tuesdays at 6:25 p.m. JST on TV Tokyo and on Fridays late night at 12:58 a.m. JST on BS11. Episodes will also be available in selected regions outside Japan via Crunchyroll.
