'Black-ish' Season 4 Spoilers: 'Hamilton'-Inspired Musical Episode Kicks Off Show's Return
A powerful musical episode will open "Black-ish" season 4. Star Anthony Anderson details it will be a "Hamilton"-inspired number.
"Black-ish" will premiere with Dre (Anderson) wondering why America doesn't celebrate Juneteenth properly when it's a significant part of the country's history. The last African-American slaves were emancipated on June 19, 1865.
Anderson, who stars and executive produces "Black-ish," told TV Guide that his character won't celebrate Columbus Day and instead honor Juneteenth with a musical number. The cast will be in full costume to depict the final days of the Civil War.

"We worked our butts off for like a week rehearsing just to get this one episode down," Marcus Scribner likewise shared. The young actor plays Anderson's son, Junior, in the show.
Creator Kenya Barris told Entertainment Weekly that the fourth season premiere is their most ambitious episode yet.
"The episode takes place with Dre at a Columbus Day pageant with his kids and he's like, 'This is bulls–t!' and he starts spiraling," Barris shared. "He tries to create an advertising campaign to bring back June 19th and we do a Broadway-level musical."
Aloe Blacc created the songs the cast will sing in this special episode.
Meanwhile, Anderson was able to book "Orange is the New Black" star Laverne Cox for a guest spot on "Black-ish." It happened at an unlikely circumstance as the two ran into each other on the Emmy red carpet last Sunday.
Anderson asked Cox why she never got to appear on his show before and she promptly replied she has yet to get an invite. Right then and there, Anderson asked Cox to grace "Black-ish" and she said that she would gladly be in it.
"Black-ish" will move to a new time schedule for season 4. From its usual Wednesday block, the show will be airing on Tuesdays at 9:00 p.m. beginning Oct. 3. The comedy also stars Tracee Ellis Ross (Bow), Yara Shahidi (Zoey), Miles Brown (Jack) and Marsai Martin (Diane).
