'Black Panther' Movie, News, Cast: F. Gary Gray to Direct the Movie?
When Marvel announced its plans for its cinematic universe, it had set expectations in four phases. The first and second phases seemed fairly feasible for the studio back then, having the original Avenger members as the main focus. However, when it came to Phase 3 and Phase 4, people started to feel that Marvel may have become overly ambitious with its lineup, especially with the introduction of various new characters, alongside the current franchises of other solo original Avenger members.
However, Marvel proves itself to be on top of things, as it has already kicked off its new superhero lineup according to schedule. The impressive lineup includes "Doctor Strange, "Captain Marvel," "The Inhumans," and "Black Panther." Since "Doctor Strange" already seems pretty solid in its current casting situation, with Benedict Cumberbatch in the lead, Marvel is now ready to focus on "Black Panther." The first vital step is choosing a director.
According to Screen Rant, Marvel seems quite intent to have F. Gary Gray in the directorial role. Gray, whose notable works include "Law Abiding Citizen" and "The Italian Job," is also responsible for the latest musical biopic success "Straight Outta Compton." It would definitely be exciting to have him take on this challenge.
Gray was also considered to direct "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," but the seat was inevitably given to the Russo Bros. Another film that Gray has been tapped to direct is "Fast and Furious 8," which makes people wonder if he will still push through with "Black Panther." However, since "Furious 8" is set for 2017 and "Black Panther" in 2018, it can be assumed that the time frame shouldn't be a problem.
As for the writer being considered, The Wrap reports that one of Marvel's in-house writers might take the job. Joe Robert Cole is close to sealing the deal. Cole, who had also vied for the writer role for "The Inhumans," may have already proven himself worthy of the position as he is part of the studio that has been producing these films. He is already familiar with what Marvel is looking for and would be able to serve a story that is in line with Marvel's vision.
For now, fans await the official announcement from Marvel on who will be in charge of "Black Panther" before it hits theaters on a much earlier date of February 16, 2018 from its first official announcement of July 6, 2018.
