'Black Panther' Movie News: Lupita Nyong'o Negotiating to Play Role of Monica Lynne?
Oscar Award-winning actress Lupita Nyong'o is said to be in the negotiating table with Marvel Studios for a possible role in the planned "Black Panther" movie.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nyong'o, if negotiations go on smoothly, will play the love interest of Chadwick Boseman, who will play the titular role. Incidentally, Boseman's character has already been introduced in the current blockbuster, "Captain America: Civil War," which has already raked in $940,892,078 as its worldwide gross as of this writing.
While it has been reported that Nyong'o will play the love interest of Black Panther, there is no confirmation as to who or what she will really be in the movie. Basing on the report of The Hollywood Reporter, it can be assumed that she will play a member of Dora Milaje, the elite all-female bodyguards of Black Panther from which a potential queen can be chosen.
Cinema Blend opines, though, that there is a very big possibility for Nyong'o to breathe life to the character of Monica Lynne. The entertainment website notes that, in the comic book version of the Marvel character, it was Monica Lynne who saved Black Panther from drowning after one of his battles.
Black Panther eventually returned the favor by rescuing Monica Lynne after she fell in the hands of a racist criminal organization. This led to the falling in love of the characters and their eventual engagement. However, in a surprising turn of events, Black Panther ended their relationship.
The outlet also points out that, while it's true that Storm is the most popular love interest of Black Panther, the inclusion of the character in the upcoming "Black Panther" movie is almost impossible at this point in time as the X-Men character belongs to 20th Century Fox, just like the rest of the X-Men.
Meanwhile, "Black Panther" will be helmed by "Creed's" director, Ryan Coogler, who will scribe the story. Filming is set to kick off at the beginning of 2017, and the movie is slated for a February 16, 2018 release date.
