BlackBerry Venice release date, curved display rumors

BlackBerry Venice is set to be released in around two months, and rumors about the device having curved display have circulated online ahead of the release date.

A recently uploaded video showing the specs and features of the new BlackBerry Venice has finally put an end to the rumors about the Android-powered smartphone having curved-side display. It was just the lighting on the pictures that made the device appear to have curved-side display, according to the International Business Times.

The upcoming BlackBerry Venice is the Canadian smartphone maker's attempt to regain its footing in the mobile industry. For the first time, the firm will release an Android-powered smartphone to reach the large market composed of Android loyalists, Realty Today reports.

Based on the newly leaked video, the BlackBerry Venice will have a flat display. One of the most appealing specs about the unit is its slider QWERTY keyboard, which is reminiscent of the BlackBerry Passport, the report details.

The BlackBerry Venice's QWERTY keyboard has a feature that allows the user to "wake" the phone with just a double tap. In addition, the keyboard also has a feature for maneuvering through the screen using up and down swipes only.

When the keyboard slides out of the BlackBerry Venice, three choices will appear: BlackBerry Hub, Google services, and universal search. The last option will help the user search the Web and the phone's content for desired terms or functions, the report relays.

Other specs of the BlackBerry Venice include microSD card slot for storage expansion, a speaker grill at the bottom of the phone, volume rocker and power button on the right side, the BlackBerry Convenience Key for managing other functions on the same side. The Convenience Key is usually used to open the camera function of the device.

The BlackBerry Venice will reportedly be released in November and will be available in all major U.S. carriers. However, the price of the device is still under wraps.
