'Blade Runner 2049' Release Date, News: Movie Is an Inspiration to Other Films
Over 30 years is an awfully long time before creating a sequel, and yet the second installment, "Blade Runner 2049," is coming. Despite its long absence, it appears other movies are drawing inspiration from Ridley Scott's sci-fi classic.
According to Movie Web, the Star Wars spinoff, "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," actually had some scenes that pay homage to the original 1982 film. The said scene was where Cassian Andor, played by Diego Luna, met with a rather shady contact in an inconspicuous place. It somehow resembles Rick Deckard's (Harrison Ford) exploits in tracking down android replicants, and was said that it was intentional.
It is a rather surprising fact given how illustrious the Star Wars franchise is. Also taking consideration that "Star Wars," which had its first installment released in 1977, started earlier than "Blade Runner," it just adds to the flattery.
It's not just high-profile movies that are being inspired by Scott's work with the classic "Blade Runner." Even up-and-coming talents are tracing the footsteps of the sci-fi film and even decided to have a story that revolves around its world.
The Verge has identified "Slice of Life" as such, and it is created by director Luka Hrgović together with Dino Julius (director of photography and producer), Anton Svetić (actor and screenwriter), Ivica Pustički and Emilija Habulin (actors). Hrgović expects that it will be a 20- to 25-minute-long short film, and is hoping that the trailer they created would get backers through a Kickstarter campaign.
The new film's plot revolves around a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling) who will be needing help in solving the current problems of society. In order to do that, he seeks the help of Rick Deckard who has been missing for over 30 years.
"Blade Runner 2049" arrives in cinemas on Oct. 6, 2017.
