'Blade Runner 2049' Release Date, Plot Rumors: Movie to Show Life Off-World?
The first clip for the highly anticipated sequel "Blade Runner 2049" has been released showing LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling) in the middle of an investigation.
In the video, Officer K goes into a child sweatshop run by a character played by Lennie James who is in the least bit threatened by the police officer that is on to him.
It is revealed in the "Blade Runner 2049" clip that preparations are being made to get humans off-world with the necessary equipment being built by the child workers. This put Nerdist under the impression that the sequel might show what life is like in outer space.
This was also hinted in the prequel short "Blade Runner 2036," in which Niander Wallace (Jared Leto) after arguing that the Replicants will be of crucial help to the survival of mankind in the off-world colonies.
Whether or not "Blade Runner 2049" will indeed take moviegoers to outer space, fans will just have to wait for its release. Of course, the other mystery is Rick Deckard's (Harrison Ford) whereabouts and what he knows that led to him being hunted.
As the release of the sequel is nearing, director Denis Villeneuve talked to Mercury News about his approach in working on the film and making sure that it will not be a mere replica, but will still keep the key components in the original film by Ridley Scott.
The movie we did is deeply inspired by the first movie, but we tried not to become a pastiche or parody. We used elements from the first movie with humility and tried to find a strength in them. But this movie has its own personality.
Villeneuve also spoke about the tone of "Blade Runner 2049" and how it compares to the 1982 original:
It's a world that is quite bleak and dark and claustrophobic, but I tried to find an equilibrium with explosions of color that would express some emotions and some themes. The color yellow is very important in the movie and is linked with different aspects, story-wise.
"Blade Runner 2049" will be out Oct. 6.
